Book of Mormon Lands are Sacred Lands

The lands the Savior walked during his visit to the Nephites in this promised land of America is just as sacred as those he walked in the old world–lands worth searching for, for once they are discovered not only will the saga played out in the Book of Mormon come to life, but we will finally learn what happened to Lehi’s descendants, the Lamanites, and how they fared through the centuries. Much of their history, which until now has only been whispered by the winds to those of our day, can finally be pieced together.

The Book of Mormon is more than a history book of two ancient civilizations; it provides a testimony of the visit of Jesus Christ to the Promised Land after his death and resurrection. Moreover, it identifies through clues and keys, the covenant land of Joseph, the favorite son of Jacob who was sold into Egypt by his brothers.  Moreover it will identify a territory in western New York which fits the geographical description provided in the Book of Mormon remarkably well, and also the Lamanites–Lehi’s lost and forgotten children of the forest who have continued on in the covenant lands of their fathers for over 2500 years.

President Ezra Taft Benson speaks of the many events which have transpired in this favored land of America. He said: . . .”Many great events have transpired in this land of destiny. This was the place where Adam dwelt; this was the place where the Garden of Eden was; it was here that Adam met with a body of high priests at Adam-ondi-Ahman shortly before his death and gave them his final blessings, and the place to which he will go to meet the leaders of his people (D&C 107:53-57). This was the place of three former civilizations: that of Adam, that of the Jaredites, and that of the Nephites. This was also the place where our Heavenly Father and his Son, Jesus Christ, appeared to Joseph Smith, inaugurating the last dispensation.

“The Lord has also decreed that this land should be “the place of the New Jerusalem, which should come down out of heaven, and the holy sanctuary of the Lord”. (Ether 13:3). Here is our nation’s destiny! To serve God’s eternal purposes and to prepare this land and people for America’s eventual destiny, He “established the constitution of this land, by the hands of wise men whom {He} raised up unto this very purpose, and redeemed the land by the shedding of blood.” (D&C 101:80). (This Nation Shall Endure, p. 13.)
